Having sold 70 million albums worldwide, The English progressive rock band The Moody Blues’ “rich symphonic sound” influenced groups such as Yes, Genesis, the Electric Light Orchestra and Deep Purple. They also helped make synthesizers and philosophy “part of the rock mainstream”. They has released 16 studio albums, 8 live album, 23 compilation albums, 36 singles, and 7 videos albums.<\/span><\/p>\n British pop band The Moody Blues is best known for being pioneers of progressive rock over a career spanning seven decades. \u2219 After topping the British singles chart, \u201cGo Now!\u201d became the group\u2019s American breakthrough, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during its 14-week run in 1965. \u2219 In 1967, keyboardist Mike Pinder first employed the proto-synth Mellotron on the concept album Days of Future Passed, establishing the band\u2019s unique sound. \u2219 \u201cNights in White Satin,\u201d their signature song and a prog-rock anthem, was actually written about a set of sheets given to vocalist Justin Hayward by an ex-girlfriend. \u2219 Despite its title, 1972\u2019s Seventh Sojourn was the group\u2019s eighth album, and it became their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spending five weeks atop the chart.<\/span><\/p>\n In 1988, songwriter\/vocalist Justin Hayward won the Composer of the Year Ivor Novello Award for \u201cI Know You\u2019re Out There Somewhere.\u201d \u2219 The Moody Blues\u2019 \u201cNights in White Satin\u201d was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, along with such classics as Etta James\u2019 \u201cAt Last\u201d and Them\u2019s \u201cGloria.\u201d \u2219 The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, just months after founding member Ray Thomas passed away.
