The first studio album by Destiny’s Child, issued on February 17, 1998, introduced the vocal group to the R&B world. Released on July 14, 1999, The Writing’s on the Wall was a steep artistic growth. Destiny’s Child’s second studio album moved on from the neo-soul sound of their first offering, now electing for a blend of R&B, pop, hip hop, and soul, with new contributors such as Missy Elliott and Rodney Jerkins. “Survivor”, the third studio album by Destiny’s Child, came out on April 25, 2001. An important point in the life of the band, two founding members left LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson from the band, adding Farrah Franklin for some time, until finally the new member, Michelle Williams, joined in and was able to pass through a sea of controversy and come out much stronger. “8 Days of Christmas” is the fourth studio album by Destiny’s Child, released on October 30, 2001, and to date is their only Christmas release. Combining both covers of classic Christmas songs and new material into one, the album gives new spins to the former with modern R&B settings. Recorded in the United States and Japan, it includes seasonal reinterpretations of the standards like “Silent Night” and “White Christmas,” but also some less conventional ones-the title track and “Winter Paradise.” Reviews were not all raves-some found it too experimental, but others felt not experimental enough-but the album was nevertheless a commercial success, reaching number 34 on the Billboard 200 and eventually selling platinum.

“Destiny Fulfilled” is the fifth and final studio album by Destiny’s Child, which was released on November 8, 2004. This R&B album surfaced after the two-year break the group took for solo projects. Recorded mainly at Sony Music Studios in New York, all the members contribute equally in songwriting and production in this album. Working with producers like Rockwilder, Rodney Jerkins, 9th Wonder, and Sean Garrett, the album tried its hand at crunk, hip hop, and funk. It narrates a woman’s story through her relationship.

Despite their lukewarm reception, the album did much better commercially, reaching number two on the US Billboard 200, with over seven million copies sold worldwide. The album garnered five Grammy Award nominations for best album. Other international chart-toppers on this album include “Lose My Breath” and “Soldier”. The world tour that accompanied it finished with the announcement of the group’s breakup in June 2005.
